After the exhibition visit, colors, chalk, and other materials are available. In a workshop, which always relates thematically to the respective exhibition, children can then become active and creatively capture their impressions.

Renovation and Relocation
-
Due to the energy-efficient renovation of the SCHIRNâs listed postmodern building on the RĂśmer, the SCHIRN will temporarily relocate. Work is due to begin in September 2025 and is expected to last until 2028.
-
The building will undergo comprehensive energy-efficiency modernisation: a new façade made of durable natural stone, insulation, energy-efficient windows and photovoltaic systems on the roofs. Greenery will provide cooling and improve air quality. In addition, fire safety, building services, sanitary facilities and accessibility will be brought up to the latest standards. The foyer and visitor toilet facilities will also be renovated.
-
Following a complete decontamination, accessible entrances and escape routes were created, fire safety measures were upgraded and modern security systems installed. Two exhibition spaces meeting museum standards were fitted out, one of which features comprehensive climate control. New toilet facilities and a cafĂŠ were also created on the ground floor.
-
The SCHIRN can also host two exhibitions simultaneously here: HALL 1 on the first floor of the main building, HALL 2 across the courtyard. On the ground floor, there is an open foyer with areas for educational programmes, events and the new CafĂŠ B. The inner courtyard is integrated into the communal spaces. The MINISCHIRN has also been specially adapted for the site. The SCHIRN teamâs offices are located on the third floor. The second floor is made available by the City of Frankfurt to selected local initiatives.
-
Yes. The international programme on modern and contemporary art remains unchanged, though it will be presented in a slightly smaller space. The MINISCHIRN is also moving to the new location in an adapted form.
-
Yes. It will be presented in a new format developed specifically for the site. Children aged 4 to 9 can experiment there with colours, shapes, mirrors, light, shadows and a marble run. At weekends, children can explore the new module independently whilst their parents visit the exhibitions.
-
Under the name 2og:dondorf, studios and a community space for civil society, scientific and cultural initiatives are being created here.
-
Although the SCHIRN focuses on modern and contemporary art, it is mindful of the siteâs unique history. Its initiatives to promote historical awareness include information panels in the outdoor area, guided tours and a podcast in SCHIRN MAGAZINE.
