Magically Surreal
In autumn 2026, the SCHIRN will present the first major exhibition on Leonor Fini in Germany. Around 150 works, including paintings, drawings, photographs, and objects, offer a comprehensive insight into the artist’s fascinating oeuvre.
-
priestesses, sphinxes, hybrid figures – with her distinctively Old Master-inflected style, Leonor Fini creates dreamlike scenes that invert classical gender roles
-
drawing on the Renaissance, Symbolism, German Romanticism, and magic Surrealism, she developed a visual language all her own – one suspended between dream, myth, and fantasy
-
emancipation, gender fluidity, eros, occultism, death, and transformation run throughout Fini’s work, as does a playful engagement with masks, costumes, and the performance of identity
