Notes
Lying on the floor, Tim Otto Roth’s new compositions unfold a special intensity — visitors are therefore encouraged to bring blankets or yoga mats. The work is best experienced in the evening hours, when it is especially atmospheric.
The exhibition is open Thursday–Saturday (September 17–19) until 10 PM, and Sunday (September 20) until 7 PM.
The new project was developed specifically for Roth’s sound accelerator “Heaven’s Carousel,” which enables an impressive, spectral listening experience of timbres and sounds. This weekend, in the SCHIRN’s courtyard, 36 spherical, glowing loudspeakers will rotate above visitors — similar to a chain carousel — suspended from 12 strands across three circular levels. The sound is generated purely through sine tones and noise bands, with the speakers also lighting up in spectral colors corresponding to pitch — from red for low tones to blue for high tones.
While the exhibition “The World Through AI” addresses the question of how AI technologies are fundamentally transforming visual culture, Tim Otto Roth’s project makes transparent the process by which AI generates voices and instrumental sounds — visitors can, in a sense, listen in as the AI learns.
