Renovation of the SCHIRN at the Römer

A flagship project for Frankfurt

Lorem ipsum

The renovation of the Schirn’s listed postmodern building complex at the Römer, to be carried out through 2028, is focused on energy efficiency. This flagship project includes the energy-related optimization of the entire building shell in accordance with its landmark status.

The badly eroded sandstone facade will be renewed and replaced by a harder natural stone of similar appearance which is more suited to the external environmental influences. The entire building will be given comprehensive insulation, energy-efficient windows, and solar panels on the roof, from which the energy generated will be fed into the power supply of the building.

A greening concept will be applied to some of the roofs of the building and to parts of the facade, so as to achieve a cooling effect both inside and out, as well as improving the air quality. A central aim will be to update the fire-protection systems, the building technology, and to renovate the sanitary installations and install intelligent building control.

The renovation phase will also be used to implement measures in the foyer and in the sanitary facilities with a particular focus on ensuring accessibility.
