Visu\u00adally and in terms of the dramatics and staging, Dreyer links the passion of Jeanne D\u2019Arc with that of Jesus Christ, whereby the English soldiers and the cler\u00adgymen are iden\u00adti\u00adfied as the tormen\u00adtors. Not least prob\u00adably for this reason, on its release the film was forbidden in England, while at the insis\u00adtence of the French arch\u00adbishop the film produced in France had repeat\u00adedly to be re-edited by Dreyer\u2019s produc\u00adtion company. \u201cNowhere is paradise\u201d, Charlot 2047 announces in Margaret Haines\u2019 \u201cOn Air: Purity, Corrup\u00adtion &amp; Pollu\u00adtion\u201d, spot\u00adlighting the \u201cexclu\u00adsion of women from sacred\u201d.
