BIG ORCHESTRA IN AUGUST

Contemporary art has its own sound. Musical instruments that are sculptures at the same time represent a still relatively unknown, recent development in contemporary art.

For the duration of the exhibition, the SCHIRN will become a temporary concert hall: In the SOUND SESSIONS and WORKSHOPS, the sound of the artworks will be made tangible in live performances for visitors. A mobile display architecture creates a space in which musicians can explore the sounds of the instruments in ever newly created ensembles, after which they will be presented in the Big O performances. Particular highlights include the BIG O WEEKEND and the BIG O HANGOUTS, where artists turn their own works into sound.

Here you will find an overview of the BIG O SESSIONS and PERFORMANCES for BIG ORCHESTRA in August

OPEN SOUND SESSIONS

Thierry Madiot

Since 2012 the French artist and musician Tarek Atoui has been working on a project called WITHIN, in which he explores the possibilities for how deafness can expand the common understanding of sound based on acoustic perception in a variety of ways. Working with both deaf and hearing laypersons, as well as musicians, composers and designers, Tarek Atoui and Thierry Madiot have designed instruments that place the physical, tactile and visual perception of sounds at the fore. These open sound sessions will be accomplished with the performer Thierry Madiot
