In the workshop, they draw on their own thoughts and insights to create their own individual pieces. On a guided tour of the exhibition, we will explore Leonor Fini’s distinctive visual language – situated between dream, myth and theatrical staging – and discover key motifs such as priestesses, sphinxes, hybrid figures, as well as masks and costumes in her works. We will explore the themes of identity, gender and social norms, and examine how we present ourselves and the roles we assume in everyday life. Together, we will investigate the tension between concealment and revelation: which aspects (of ourselves) remain hidden, and which do we consciously reveal to the outside world? In the subsequent workshop, we will translate this ambivalence into an artistic object. We will design sculptural headdresses that go beyond mere disguise. In doing so, we will experiment with contrasting materials such as cardboard, textiles and recycled materials. Through the use of movable or foldable elements, we will create objects that question the distinction between the real and the staged, and playfully expand identities. In autumn 2026, the SCHIRN will present the first major exhibition on Leonor Fini in Germany. Around 100 works, including paintings, drawings, photographs and objects, will provide a comprehensive insight into the artist’s fascinating body of work. Influenced by the Renaissance, Symbolism, German Romanticism and magical Surrealism, Fini developed a distinctive visual language that straddles the realms of dream, myth and fantasy.
