VISIONS AND UTOPIAS. ARCHITECTURAL DRAWINGS FROM THE MUSEUM OF MODERN ART, NEW YORK
29. April - 3. August 2003
“Visions and Utopias” outlines the art of architectural drawing by presenting a number of extraordinary works from the collection of the Museum of Modern Art, New York. The impressive quality and artistic variety of these pieces evidence the hand of great architects and outstanding draftsmen – from the early modern masters like Frank Lloyd Wright, Le Corbusier, and Mies van der Rohe to contemporary protagonists such as Frank O. Gehry, Zaha Hadid, Rem Koolhaas, and Daniel Libeskind. The exhibits range from cursory sketches and Utopian visions to detailed plans and offer an unusually extensive and fascinating survey. Comprising about 200 works, the presentation reveals architectural drawings as an autonomous art genre of art which has been subject to continuous changes since the onset of digital revolutions and their impact on the practice of architecture.
The exhibition "Visions and Utopias" was organized by the Museum of Modern Art, New York, and takes place under the patronage of "The International Council."
